Geography
Our Geography curriculum is carefully sequenced to support both academic development and the social‑emotional needs of SEMH learners, beginning with accessible, visually rich topics that help pupils feel safe as they explore natural hazards, sustainability, and their own local environment before gradually broadening to more complex global themes.
In Year 7, pupils build confidence through concrete ideas such as natural hazards, “impossible places,” and local area study, grounding learning in real‑life experiences and step‑by‑step skill building.
Year 8 extends this foundation by introducing broader human and physical geography—population change, globalisation, Asia, and rivers—carefully linking new ideas to familiar concepts to ensure emotional regulation and cognitive readiness.
By Year 9, pupils are prepared to engage with more abstract and sensitive themes such as global development, Africa, weather and climate, coasts, and the vital role of water, supported by predictable routines, visuals, and scaffolded decision‑making.
Across all year groups, pupils develop key geographical skills, curiosity, resilience, and a growing understanding of how people and environments shape one another, enabling them to navigate the world with increasing confidence, independence, and emotional awareness.
