History
Our History curriculum is intentionally sequenced to support both academic learning and the social‑emotional development of SEMH pupils, beginning with emotionally safe, story‑rich topics that explore community, belonging, and everyday life before gradually introducing more complex ideas about power, belief, conflict, and social change.
This progression moves pupils from concrete and familiar content in Years 4–6 to increasingly abstract and challenging themes in Years 7–9, ensuring they develop the regulation, empathy, and critical‑thinking skills needed to engage safely with sensitive material such as war, injustice, and human rights.
By the time pupils reach GCSE, they are equipped to analyse sophisticated concepts -including dictatorship, ideology, global tension, and long‑term change – with confidence and emotional readiness.
Overall, the curriculum builds curiosity, resilience, identity, and reflective thinking within a nurturing therapeutic environment, enabling every learner to access history meaningfully and grow both academically and personally.
